Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2020, and he found out live on TV.

The Super Bowl-winning coach is one of 15 members elected to the 2020 centennial class in conjunction with the NFL’s 100th anniversary.

Cowher won 161 games (counting the postseason) as Steelers coach, including the 2006 Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks. A Crafton native, he led the Steelers from 1992-2006.

Cowher is one of four Steelers legends who were named as finalists for this year’s Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Fellow coach Buddy Parker, Super Bowl-winning safety Donnie Shell and University of Pittsburgh and Freedom High School alumnus Jimbo Covert were previously announced as local legends who were among 38 finalists.

The class of 2020 will consist of 20 members. An additional five members will be added to the class of 2020 on Selection Saturday, the day before this year’s Super Bowl, when the modern-era player finalists are voted on by the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
