American Airlines brings back wings for junior flyers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — American Airlines is reviving its custom of giving wings to junior flyers to share the love of flying and adventure with their passengers.

Pilots and flight attendants will pass out wings at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Wednesday before flight 1729 departing at 11:20 a.m. and flight 691 departing at 1:01 p.m.

Wings were originally worn as a symbol of qualification by the U.S. military in 1913.

American Airlines pilots and flight attendant have proudly worn wings for more than eight decades.

The pin is a symbol of aviation, ability and adventure, the airline said.
