CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell answered questions Tuesday at the Ballantyne Hotel about the possibility of a Super Bowl in Charlotte.
Goodell said it all comes down to infrastructure, hotels and the stadium.
The NFL awarded Super Bowls Tuesday to three cities with new, or overhauled stadiums. Atlanta will host the 2019 Super Bowl, boasting a stadium opening next year while 2020 will be in Miami, which is getting a $400 million overhaul.
The big game will head to Los Angeles in 2021 and the NFL has called its new stadium plans transformational.
"Of course having a new stadium, a new arena in a market is very helpful," said Mark Romig, part of the New Orleans contingent making the city's bid Tuesday. "In fact it's pretty much been very consistent."
New Orleans, which has hosted more Super Bowls than any other city, was unsuccessful in its bid this time. It also has an older stadium.
Bank of America Stadium, which opened in 1996, recently underwent renovations but nothing to the same degree as Miami's overhaul.
