Driving in high winds is safer with these tips!

There are unavoidable situations that we have to learn to overcome while driving, one of those being hazardous weather conditions. Hazardous and extreme weather can make driving nerve wracking unless you know tips for safe driving in risky weather. One dicey situation you may have to face out on the open road is driving in high winds. On a particularly blustery day, you may be behind the wheel of your N Charlotte Scion and have to know how to drive safe.

Driving in high winds made safe with these tips

Instead of getting worried while driving in high winds, you can remain calm when you keep these N Charlotte Scion safety tips in mind.

Use defensive driving

  • Slow down! Abide by speed limits and keep in mind that the faster you drive, the more wind gets underneath your car. A lot of fast moving wind underneath your new Scion in N Charlotte can cause it to lose control or flip.
  • While driving in high winds, be alert. Observe other motorists and anticipate the actions of other drivers. Defensive driving techniques also include creating a safe following distance between your N Charlotte Scion and the vehicle in front of you.
  • Always wear a seatbelt, turn your headlights on at dusk and don't forget to use your turn indicators.

Pay attention to your surroundings

  • While driving in high winds in a N Charlotte Scion, it's important to be aware of your surroundings and to look out for debris in the road put there by the powerful winds. Debris like this usually includes various items like garbage, tree limbs or road debris like shredded tires. These items tend to blow right into the road during a period of high winds.
  • Avoid driving next to larger vehicles. It's best not to drive your N Charlotte Scion near vehicles like trucks, vans and SUVs during high winds because they are more likely to get pushed over by a big gust and can cause a collision.

Avoid distracted driving

  • Not driving distracted comes with using defensive driving and paying attention to your surroundings. Any time that you are behind the wheel of a car, you should avoid distracted driving. Anything that takes your hands off of the wheel, eyes off of the road and mind off of driving should be avoided completely.
  • Never text and drive. So you are not tempted to use your cell phone while driving, put it out of sight and out of reach. This will keep you safer while driving in high winds.

Stay safe in your N Charlotte Scion

If you’re not comfortable driving in high winds, be sure to check the weather report before getting behind the wheel. If you’re already driving and the weather becomes too much, safely pull off to the side of the road and turn on your hazard lights. Wait until the winds die down and you feel comfortable enough to get back on the road.
