Charlotte is celebrating its 250th anniversary and provides an opportunity for Charlotte to recognize its past, understand its present and imagine its future.
SHARE Charlotte chose 40 local nonprofit organizations that play a significant role in strengthening the city, and how the community, local businesses, corporations, foundations, groups and individuals can support their vision for CLT250.
The CLT250 legacy projects have been designed to leave a legacy on Charlotte.
One legacy project is the Charlotte Mecklenburg Housing Partnership (The Housing Partnership) which is a nonprofit housing development and financial corporation that provides affordable housing in stable neighborhoods for low- and moderate-income families in Charlotte.
The project that they have chosen is a beautification effort consisting of minor landscaping around the housing units that are a part of the Housing Partnership.
Each housing unit needs 250 new shrubs and perennial plants in the flower beds. Volunteers will clear plant beds, remove any old plantings, use weed barriers and soil to install new shrubs and perennials, and spread mulch.
The project requires $3,500 to purchase of plants and supplies.
The Housing Partnership hopes to instill collective pride and sense of community for the housing partnership residents. They hope the new landscaping encourages collective ownership among the tenants for upkeep of the grounds to foster engagement and responsibility.
The project will take place Saturday, May 4 through Sunday May 5, 2019.
The Housing Partnership has revitalized nine neighborhoods in Charlotte, creating more than 2,600 units of affordable housing for families, and homeownership center has created over 3,800 homeowners and counseled more than 23,700 families.
Their vision is that everyone in Charlotte lives in a safe, affordable home in a vibrant community that supports opportunity and economic mobility.
