NASCAR Hall of Fame hosts 9 School Tools Start-Up

CHARLOTTE — Channel 9’s 20th annual collection of 9 School Tools kicked off Wednesday at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in uptown Charlotte.

Mayor Jennifer Roberts was at the hall of fame’s plaza when she declared Wednesday 9 as School Tools Day in Charlotte.

“Every student needs the tools to be successful in school,” Roberts said.

Duke Energy employees and people uptown brought in supplies for the drive.

The collection covers 22 counties and has helped more than three million children over two decades.

NASCAR driver A.J. Allmendinger was at the event.

“We take things for granted,” Allmendinger said. Wednesday. “Go to school and get your education.”

The collection runs until Aug. 20, and there are several locations to drop off supplies.
