1 dead, 1 injured in crash on Potter Rd.

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A two-car crash killed one person and left another in critical condition Saturday night.

The crash happened on Potter Road around 8:25 p.m. involving a Mercedes SLK 320 and a Mazda 626.

The driver of the Mercedes, Eric Sobel, was pinned in his vehicle after the wreck. Emergency crews had to rush to stabilize and free him from his car.

Officials said Sobel was driving east on Potter Road when the driver lost control and veered into oncoming traffic.

Sobel was struck in the driver's door by a 1989 Mazda driven by Tammy Tucker Eudy.

The impact caused the Mercedes to spin in the opposite direction and face back westbound in the center of Potter Rd.

The Mazda was driven backwards off the side of the road on the westbound side of Potter Road.

Both were taken to Carolinas Medical Center where Eudy later died.

The incident is still under investigation by the Stallings Police Department.
