Six Charlotte-area hospitals have made the list as the top hospitals in the nation.
U.S. News and World Report ranked Carolinas Medical Center Main, Gaston Memorial Hospital, Carolinas Medical Center Northeast, Carolinas Medical Center Mercy, Carolinas Medical Center Union and Presbyterian Hospital as the top hospitals in metropolitan areas.
CMC Main was recognized by U.S. News and World Report for its adult specialty. Gaston Memorial scored high in patient safety.
CMC Northeast performed high in diabetes and urology, while CMC Mercy also performed high in urology, according to the report.
CMC Union was recognized for its pulmonology, while Presbyterian was awarded for its gastroenterology.
There are 16 hospitals in the Charlotte metropolitan area, which includes Gastonia and Rock Hill.
