Custom home builders file bankruptcy after families complain about unfinished work

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The owners of Carbon Custom Homes have filed for bankruptcy. Action 9 first told you about these custom home builders early in June.

Ray “Chad” Bonds filed chapter 13 bankruptcy, while John Carlson filed chapter 7.

The pair told the court they owe between 50 and 99 creditors each. Bonds added he has more than $500,000 in liabilities. Carlson said he has more than $1 million.

In June, multiple homebuyers told Action 9’s Jason Stoogenke Carbon Custom Homes did shoddy work, made excuses, and did not pay certain subcontractors.

Some of the subcontractors took on liens on the customer’s homes and some are even suing.
