Charlotte Restaurant Week features new and longtime participants

Queen’s Feast:  Charlotte Restaurant Week welcomed two unique restaurants among the 111 participating in the 10 day promotion.  We had the chance to speak to a veteran and a rookie about their experiences with the event.

Rick Crowe of Sullivan's Steakhouse remembers being contacted by event organizers about participating in the inaugural promotion held four years ago.  They've been actively involved ever since.  He has seen amazing events happen during restaurant week,  including providing a five year vegetarian with a steak.

The atmosphere among the employees is one of excitement and dedication to a team effort.  “About four weeks out, the buzz starts happening and everybody’s rearranging their schedules. It’s all hands on deck during restaurant week."

Newcomers Wolfgang Puck Pizza Bar called on the famous top chef to help craft special dishes for the week.  Executive chef Scott Wallen says, "My grandmother was from the deep south - Kentucky - so I grew up with real soulful food.  It always brought the family together, so I think that's obviously inspiration behind what I do.  And it's part of what's exciting about restaurant week."

For Wallen and general manager Cedric Castro, the week is all about atmosphere.  “Genuine hospitality - it’s a brand that Wolfgang Puck has carried with any of his concepts," Castro says.  "It’s about coming home and being amongst friends.”

Queen's Feast:  Charlotte Restaurant Week continues through Sunday, July 28.
