CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Crews began removing the landmark "Jesus Saves" sign from the Old Cannon Cathedral late Monday afternoon.

The nonprofit group "Save Our Signs" is paying for its removal from the church, which is scheduled to be torn down later this week.
City leaders delayed the demolition of the church, which is located in the Wesley Heights area, in order to give the owners more time to find a way to preserve the sign.
It will be relocated to the Garr Memorial Church.
