Devon Still will travel to Los Angeles alone to accept the Jimmy V. Perseverance Award.

Still had hoped his 5-year-old daughter Leah would be healthy enough for the trip. Doctors recently indicated she wouldn't be, according to ESPN.

The Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle announced news of Leah's absence with a photo that featured some of his family members.

Still posted on Instagram: "We are short one princess but unfortunately the doctors didn't give her the ok because her immune system is still weak."

The Jimmy V. Perseverance Award was named after legendary NC State men's basketball coach Jim Valvano, who delivered an emotional speech at the 1993 ESPYS during his own bout with cancer.

Serena Williams leads the list of nominees for best female athlete, which also includes UFC fighter Ronda Rousey, Connecticut basketball player Breanna Stewart and Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn.

ESPN announced in June that Caitlyn Jenner will be presented with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ceremony.

Vanity Fair reports that all 10 of Jenner's children and stepchildren will be on stage with her.

The former Bruce Jenner first discussed transitioning into a woman in an ABC exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer in April.

"My brain is much more female than it is male. It's hard for people to understand that. But that's what my soul is," Jenner told Sawyer.

The awards show, hosted by Joel McHale, will air live Wednesday from Los Angeles.
