Experience may not be necessary for potential CMS teachers

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is hiring hundreds of teachers, and experience may not be necessary.

District officials sent out a memo to employees, asking if they knew of qualified candidates in other professions.

Interested candidates would apply to TEACH Charlotte, which is a program that trains potential teachers for the classroom.

The program's manager said they search out only the best candidates.

"Last year we looked at 1,300 applications for ultimately 78 teachers who began in the classroom," TEACH Charlotte site manager Mallory O'Connell said.

CMS hopes to hire 200 new teachers by January.
