CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The national jobless rate dropped to 7.7 percent last month, which is a four-year low, beating expectations.
The government is reporting 236,000 new jobs were added in February.
These numbers, combined with recent business relocations, mean good news for Charlotte.
Also encouraging news, construction hiring was up, and in Charlotte, homes sales are up too.
All of that could lead to stronger economic growth.
Channel 9 talked to economist John Connaughton about the numbers Friday.
"This is good news. Its better news than anyone expected, but it's too early to say, 'Yeah, we're now getting our mojo back,'" he said.
Connaughton said the 1,300 jobs that MetLife is bringing to Charlotte is one more sign that the local economy is growing faster than the rest of the state.
