GASTON COUNTY, N.C.,None — Just before Wiliam Payseur made his first court appearance Wednesday on a second-degree murder charge, the fiancée of the man he is accused of killing sent a message for him.
Angela Hyson's fiancé, Ricky Woodell, died Saturday after being hit by a car in his front yard. Police said Payseur was driving, and three friends were in the car with him.
"I want them to remember every day of their lives what they have taken away from me and their kids," Hyson said.
Hyson said she was happily living with Ricky Woodell and his three children from a previous marriage. She is currently pregnant with Woodell's baby.
Hyson said she hasn't been able to speak clearly since seeing Woodell run down.
The couple was playing Monopoly with the three children just before Woodell was killed, Hyson said.
The pieces still sit on the game board, in the same places now as they were Woodell first heard gunshots on Aderholdt Road, located outside of Dallas.
He went outside to investigate, and told his children to go to the back of the house.
Payseur and his friends were reportedly drinking and spotlighting deer down the street from Woodell's house.
Police said Payseur then drove back up the street, toward the house.
Hyson said she saw her fiance in the car's headlights.
"He was so bright and I could see him and I yelled at him to get out of the way," she said.
Then, Hyson said the car hit Woodell and didn't stop.
"The vehicle just backed up and took off," she said.
Troopers said one of the men in the car came back to the scene and said Payseur was driving the car.
Payseur said little in court Wednesday. A judge set his bond at $500,000.
