WATAUGA CO., N.C.,None — Heavy snow continued to fall in the North Carolina mountains Saturday.
Eyewitness News reporter Linzi Sheldon was in Blowing Rock in Watauga County, where at least four inches of snow have fallen.
There was some black ice on the streets in Blowing Rock, Sheldon said.
North Carolina Department of Transportation crews were working in 12-hour shifts trying to clear the roads.
About 40 people and 30 snow plows were on the roads in the mountain counties. At least 18 snow plows were on the roads early Saturday morning in both Watauga and Avery counties.
Crews said they are focusing primarily on the major highways, like Highway 321, Highway 421 and Highway 105. They were also focusing on clearing roads to nursing homes and hospitals.
Secondary roads were still covered in ice and snow.
North Carolina Highway Patrol told Eyewitness News that the roads in the mountains were very slick, and the roads in Watauga County were in the worst condition.

A car ran off a snowy road in Blowing Rock late Friday night.
Emergency crews said the teenage driver slid 75 feet down a hill off Shulls Mill Road near Old Turnpike Road.
The driver's arm was pinned under the car, but rescuers were able to get her out. Her injuries were not life-threatening.
Eyewitness News learned that one person died in a car crash in Ashe County Friday afternoon, and state troopers said that icy roads may have been the cause.
Troopers did not release the victim's name or say what may have led to the crash.
