'Katrina, 10 years after the storm' airs tonight on WSOC at 10 p.m.

Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast region 10 years ago this month -- and the people of Louisiana and Mississippi will never forget.

ABC's Robin Roberts calls that area home and today, she will take us back to that region, showing us how they have fought to overcome, rebuild and thrive.

Roberts told Eyewitness News anchor Allison Latos that she learned what changes have been made to protect people from another disaster, but said the most inspiring lesson we'll learn comes from residents' spirits.

“Keep putting one foot in front of the other and whatever, anything you’re facing, like these people 10 years ago, that you can get through it,” she said.

You can watch the “Katrina, 10 years after the storm" special on Channel 9 Sunday night at 10 p.m.
