Lincoln Co. Deputy Wrecks Patrol Car Responding To Call

LINCOLN Co., N.C.,None — A Lincoln County Sheriff's deputy wrecked his patrol car after responding to a report of breaking and entering on Saturday night.

Deputy Jacob Lail ran his car off the road in a curve and lost control when he his the icy shoulder on Bess Chapel Church Road at Highway 274.

The patrol car struck a guardrail, went down an embankment and struck a tree.

Lail was wearing his seat belt and escaped injury in the crash that totaled his vehicle.

Lincoln County Sheriff Deputy David Carpenter said, "Deputy Lail was responding to an emergency call when the accident occurred and we are relieved that he was not injured."

Deputies investigated the reported break-in that Lail was responding to but found nothing.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
