'I'm really grateful': Concord homeowner not in town when tree falls on bedroom

CONCORD, N.C. — Barbara Collins said she has been watching a tree off Corban Avenue for years. It finally fell early, Monday morning.

"It was our parents house, and we always wondered about those trees, things happen when they suppose to do," said Collins.

The tree fell from its roots. It ripped up the sidewalk, and branches crashed into Collins' brother's bedroom. She said he lives at the home alone, but thankfully wasn't home last night.

"I’m really grateful that he’s not in town," Collins said.

Collins said the damage to her brother's bedroom was minimal, but they do have a lot of work cut out for them.

"There’s one the back bedroom. There’s little limb coming through the wall. It can all be fixed," Collins said.

The tree also took down a line, which utlitity crews reattached later that mornig. Crews then removed branches, and blew debris off the road.

The City of Concord said the root of the tree is on city property, but the rest of the clean up will be up to the homeowner.

"I have talked to my brother this morning, and he’s concerned about water coming in, animals. We’re going to get in touch with the insurance company and get it handled."

Neighbors are concerned about another tree that's located to the left of the tree that fell. It is leaning towards another home.

Channel 9 has reached out to the homeowner and the city to see if that one will be addressed.
