Firefighters: Damage 'irreparable' after tree crashes through Charlotte home

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Emergency crews are on scene after a tree fell through a house in northeast Charlotte, causing significant damage.

The incident happened before 1:30 p.m. at a home on Strangford Avenue.

The tree fell through the back part of the house , crashed through a brick side-wall of the home, and knocked down power lines.

Firefighters on scene said they believe the damage is irreparable and assume the house to be condemned.

No injuries have been reported.

The owner of the home will be staying with family and friends and is working on slowly and safely getting her possessions and paperwork out of the home before more rain arrives.

The owner was not home when the tree fell, but other neighbors saw the impact.

"I walked out, I looked over, and I saw the tree just fall straight on top of the house. Sparks flying everywhere," one neighbor said.

Neighbors said they were not surprised this happened.
