CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for the gunman who they said shot and killed a man inside an SUV in east Charlotte late Tuesday night.

Officers were called to the scene in a neighborhood off Eastwycke Place Drive around 11 p.m. and found the victim, 29-year-old David Lindsay, in the front seat of a parked SUV in a driveway, suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lindsay was a well-known Charlotte barber at No Grease Barbershop in Charlotte. No Grease has partnered with CMPD to fight crime by working to mentor and educate local youth.

Friends said Lindsay cut the hair of celebrities and politicians.

A sign on the door said the barber shop was closed Wednesday.

"I wanted to put some flowers on his chair,” said Andrew Fede, a friend of Lindsay’s. "Really nice guy, celebrity barber, cut so many people's hair. He cut Jesse Jackson's hair and lots of the local basketball and football players."

Channel 9 was there as detectives secured the home, which appeared not to have working electricity.

Investigators collected evidence around the vehicle and searched for anyone who may have heard or seen what led to the shooting.

Officers haven't provided a motive, but Lindsay’s friends said he was a good man of upstanding character loved by his community.

“This wasn't some drug dealer,” Fede said. “(This was) somebody with a job, great young man, nice young man and it's sad to see this happen."

No arrests have been made and police have not released a description of a possible suspect.
