1 dead; several hurt in SC shooting

GREER, S.C. — Greenville County sheriff's deputies say two officers and a suspect have been wounded in a shooting after a standoff in Greer.

   Investigators say a man entered a house around 9:30 p.m. Sunday and shot and killed a man. Deputies say the suspect then took four adults and two children hostage.

   Sheriff's deputies stormed the house around 12:30 a.m. Monday to rescue the hostages. Deputies say the suspect shot and wounded two officers. Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

   The officers returned fire and the suspect was wounded and has been taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.

   Several other people were hurt.

   Officials have not released the names of those involved or the extent of their injuries.

   The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
