1 person killed in crash on Mt. Holly-Huntersville Rd.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police in Charlotte have charged a 16-year-old girl in an accident that killed a motorcyclist on Mount Holly Huntersville Road early Friday morning.

Detectives said 55-year-old Willis Larry Hill of Stanly died when the teenager, whom they have not identified, turned in front of him about 6:40 a.m. Friday.

Police said the girl was trying to make a left turn onto Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road from Overlook Mountain Drive when Hill's motorcycle hit her SUV. She was not injured and stayed at the scene to talk with police.

People who live and drive along that busy stretch of Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road near Highway 16 said they could see trouble coming.

"You don't know what's coming, so you just try to guess and go," said Amanda Slack, who had to wait an hour to get back into her neighborhood Friday morning.

Tracey Bass said the intersection needs a stoplight.

"It's bad right here. They do need a red light," she said.

A spokesman for the Charlotte Department of Transportation says it will study the intersection once they get a full accident report from the police. That could take a week or more.
