11 polling places merged to 2 in Burke Co.

BURKE COUNTY, N.C.,None — Election day lines in Morganton may be a lot longer Tuesday.

The board of elections in Morganton moved to merge their 11 polling places into just two. Officials have not commented on the mergers, but state elections officials have pushed for years for consolidations at the county level.

Starting Tuesday, registered voters who filed into polls at W.A. Young Elementary School, Salem School, Mull Elementary School, the Broughton fire station, the Carbon City public safety station, or the Burke County Senior Center, will now vote at the burke County Board of Elections inside the Foothills Higher Education Center.

For people who previously voted at Oak Hill Ruritan, the Burke County Fairgrounds, First Advent Church, CoMMA, or Pleasant View Baptist Church, whill now vote at the Burke County Senior Center on N. Green Street near the K-Mart.
