12 libraries to offer expanded hours in April

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Twelve libraries in the Charlotte area will have expanded hours starting in April.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library officials said the goal is to expand hours and simplify them.

"The most consistent feedback we hear from customers is that they want more library hours, and that our current library hours are confusing," said David Singleton, director of libraries. "The new hours will help improve access and normalize our schedule."

The 12 community libraries -- Hickory Grove, Mountain Island, Myers Park, Plaza Midwood, Scaleybark, Steele Creek, Sugar Creek, West Boulevard, Matthews, Davidson, Cornelius and Mint Hill -- will expand service to include a full fifth day beginning April 1. Most of them are currently closed on Mondays, and close at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They will now be open Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The library's six regional locations, Main Library and ImaginOn will continue their current schedules.
