3 arrested after setting American flag on fire during May Day protest uptown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three people were arrested after protesters marched through uptown Tuesday night.

About 15 people gathered at Marshall Park to protest International Workers' Day, or "May Day." Some wore bandanas to cover their faces and police said three people, Landon Rice, VanaMary Isaac and Dhruv Pathak, pulled out an American flag, poured a flammable liquid on it and then set it on fire.

May Day is a day when thousands demand better working conditions and expanded rights for immigrants.

Police said the trio were charged with injury to real property and carelessness with fire.
