ROCK HILL, S.C. — A Rock Hill woman believes someone has been digging up graves in an old cemetery near her home.
The abandoned cemetery is about 50 yards hike down a trail in the woods. Not many people know about it, which greatly concerns Sheila Caldwell.
When Caldwell visited the site at April, she did not notice anything odd. Then this week, she saw three of the graves were dug up. There were deep holes and piles of dirt.
There are about 30 graves sites, some of them dating back to the 1780s.
Neighbors say the cemetery has been neglected for a long time.
York Co. sheriff's deputies have tried to get in touch with members of the Sturgis family who own the property, but they have not had a response.
