3 high school students accused of armed robbery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three people are accused of robbing a group of teenagers and firing shots at them.

Early Thursday morning, police arrested 18-year-old Darryl Andrews, 18-year-old Ashley Aikens and 19-year-old Sadiyyah Davis at Mallard Creek High School.

Police say four Mallard Creek students had just finished a pickup basketball game at Mallard Creek Park. As they started to head home, police say they were robbed and shot at.

“I am -- I am mad,” said a woman who wants to remain nameless. She said her grandson was one of the four victims robbed at gunpoint.

"I was told they were really running back home because of the gunshot fire,” she said.

Police said the suspects demanded their cell phones and stole $23, then while running away, the suspects fired shots at the group of teens.

While her grandson and other victims escaped unharmed, the grandmother of 12 said she's thankful it wasn't worse.

"That could have happened to somebody else's kid," she said.

She told Eyewitness News she has just one question for those charged.

"I want to know why. Why?" she said.

Eyewitness News learned from the school district that all three suspects are students at Mallard Creek High School and they were arrested at the school Thursday. We're told they could face more charges.
