ROCK HILL, S.C. — Firefighters said nobody was hurt in an overnight apartment fire in Rock Hill that left nearly two dozen people displaced.
Fire crews were called to the Brittany Place Apartments on Cathedral Mills Lane, near Main Street and Herlong Avenue, around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday and saw flames and smoke when they arrived.
Officials told Channel 9 that eight units were damaged in the fire, and that 20 people would be displaced because of it. Four other units had water and smoke damage.
Zach Mitchell heard someone pounding on doors.
“Our neighbor was banging on doors to get people out,” Mitchell said.
He said he opened the blinds, saw the fire and got his mother out of the building.
“Just going up, the entire area was orange, with flames,” Mitchell said. “The entire thing lit up.”
Mitchell said property managers are moving some residents to a building nearby to live where they will pay the same rent.
Investigators are still working to determine how the fire started.
