CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A family of seven was displaced on Sunday after a fire ripped through its home on James Jack Lane.
No one was home at the time of the fire.
Eyewitness News talked to family members about what brought them out of the house right before it caught fire.
The grandfather said the family was taking another child to camp when smoke started billowing out of the home.
Roughly 44 firefighters were needed to knock down the fire.
Firefighters broke windows and used gallons of water to control the fire.
No injuries were reported, but the family of seven will not be staying in its home for quite some time.
Neighbors said the family's dog was outside when the fire started and is also doing OK Sunday night.
One neighbor rushed over to the home when she saw the fire trucks.
"I just feel really bad for the family, but I'm glad they're OK," she said.
At this time, firefighters do not know the cause of the fire.
The Red Cross is assisting the family.
