CHARLOTTE, N.C. — American Airlines Group Inc. is completely rethinking its domestic first-class meal service.
A proper — and tasty — meal at appropriate times has always been a key part of the service offered to high-margin first-class passengers, and American knows that. The world’s largest airline is in the middle of a massive revamp of its first-class menu — no small task.
Gate Gourmet’s airline catering facility just outside the perimeter of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport is ground zero for the project, with new first-class menus expected to begin showing up on flights nationwide as early as August or September. Fort Worth, Texas-based American Airlines operates more than 90% of flights at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, home of its second-largest hub.
A reporter for a CBJ-affiliated publication traveled to the O'Hare Gate Gourmet kitchens to get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at how the meal project is unfolding. Read about the five biggest takeaways here.
