$50 million project to remake Johnston Mill property in NoDa

Johnston Mill (Melissa Key / CBJ)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Work is gearing up to restore a more than 100-year-old mill in the NoDa neighborhood.

Boston-based The Community Builders, working in a joint venture with FCP, has plans to revamp the Johnston Mill property at 3315 N. Davidson St. into 84 apartments. It will also build a 151-unit apartment building on part of the 5.1-acre property, next to the Lynx Blue Line’s 36th Street Station.

The textile mill, one of many local industrial facilities operated by C.W. Johnston, opened in 1916 and closed in 1975.

The redevelopment of the site will cost about $50 million. Read more here about what’s planned there.
