MATTHEWS, N.C. — A mother and father are searching for a dog and its owner after the dog attacked their 6-year-old son Monday night at the Siskey YMCA in Matthews.
Eyewitness News anchor Brittney Johnson spoke with the boy's mother, Penny Coleman Judkins, who posted a message to Facebook seeking information on the dog and its owner. According to the post, her son was bitten after his soccer practice.
Judkins said her 6-year-old Zach asked to pet a dog and the owner agreed.
"My son pet the dog and the dog just jumped at his face," Judkins said. "There was so much blood, my son has a twin, obviously they are both hysterical."
Judkins posted photos showing where the dog ripped Zach's skin.
"My husband is trying to comfort my son and... the woman kept repeating he's only a puppy, he's only a puppy," Judkin said.
Amid the chaos, the dog's owner left before Judkins could ask if the dog had his rabies shot.
Doctors told the family that without the dog, they'll have to wait 10 days then give Zach 5 rounds of shots to the face and thigh.
Judkins said she doesn't want money or for the owner be too scared to come forward.
"All I want her to do is come forward with her dog so my son doesn't have to go through this ordeal, that's all I want," Judkins said.
Officials with the Siskey YMCA said they reviewed their surveillance video, but it was not clear enough to make out the identity of the dog's owner.
