UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Eight Weddington High School seniors are headed to prestigious and highly competitive U.S. Service academies.

Channel 9's Elsa Gillis was there Tuesday as the seniors received a standing ovation from their peers during Weddington High School's academic signing day.
The students said they thought maybe one or two of them would get into one of the academies, but never dreamed that eight would get acceptance letters.
