84-year-old moped driver dies in crash in Belmont, police say

BELMONT, N.C. — A moped driver was killed after colliding with a vehicle in Belmont Saturday morning, police said.

The crash happened just before 11 a.m. on Wilkinson Boulevard near the entrance of an Aldi grocery store.

Officers said the driver of the moped, 84-year-old Dewey Ingram, died at the scene.

Officials said the moped was traveling down the road when a vehicle was turning left into the parking lot and pulled out in front of the moped. Ingram struck the passenger side of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was not hurt during the crash.

This is an ongoing investigation.
