9 Reading Day: Shiloh Valley Primary School

MONROE, N.C. — Throughout National reading Month, Channel 9 is shining a light on the importance of literacy in schools.

Channel 9′s Hunter Sáenz spent Friday morning reading to Kindergarteners at Shiloh Valley Primary School in Monroe. Sáenz read “The Cat in the Hat and “The Grouchy Ladybug.”

Principal Lindsey Williams joined Sáenz in reading, hoping to teach kids the teaching importance of reading early.

“We are really hoping that the school community can partner with us and getting involved, reading every night, reading with our students and the more books and literature that our students have their hands on, the more opportunities we have to help foster that literacy growth in our students,” Williams said.

Channel 9 is teaming up with ‘Promising Pages’ to give more books to kids across the Carolinas. You can drop off new or gently used books at select Arby’s or Ashley locations until April 30.
