9 students from Concord injured in bus crash near Wilmington

BOLTON, N.C. — A charter bus carrying students from Concord collided with a tractor-trailer in Columbus County, just outside of Wilmington.

ABC affiliate WWAY reported nine students were injured in the crash.

The students were from the Cannon School in Concord. According to a statement from the school, two charter buses with teachers and ninth-grade students were on a field trip to Oak Island, N.C. and were involved in a minor accident with a truck in Bolton, N.C.

Nine students were taken to two regional hospitals for evaluation of minor injuries, according to school officials. The other teachers and students of the 90-person trip are being hosted by First Baptist Church in Whiteville for the night.

Highway Patrol said the bus was turning from Highway 214 to US 74/76 when the tractor-trailer clipped it.
