CONCORD, N.C. — Amazon is building a new distribution center in Concord and could bring more than 100 jobs to the area. A handful of those jobs are already posted on the company's website
There's been speculation about the distribution center for months.
Construction is underway at the Concord Aiport Business Park and Channel 9's partners at The Independent Tribune are reporting that Amazon.com will be moving in.
Company and city officials are not commenting on the multi-million dollar investment.
According to the Independent Tribune, Amazon filed paperwork with Concord's planning department for a building permit at the business park. It states it will start building a distribution center inside one of the buildings as early as November.
One reason why Amazon may have chosen the Concord location is that it's right next to the airport.
This would be the company's first distribution center in North Carolina. The closest one to Charlotte is in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
This news comes after FedEx announced in July it will move its distribution center from Charlotte to Concord.
Typically, these centers employ about 100 to 300 workers.
