CHARLOTTE, N.C. — American Airlines was the first airline to resume flights to Puerto Rico.
The first flight took 10 passengers from Charlotte-Douglas Airport to San Juan Friday.
The airline hasn’t been transporting passengers since hurricane Maria hit, but it has been sending planes and supplies through its Project Puerto program.
Over the past week, American sent more than 466,000 pounds of supplies including cots, generators and food.
The airline loosened weight and size restrictions on bags and tweaked shipping costs so more could be brought.
A company from Boone also donated water purification systems to American so that hurricane victims could have clean water.
