Amtrak train from Raleigh to Charlotte delayed after hitting car

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Amtrak passengers arrived in Charlotte overnight after their train crashed into a car.

The Carolinian train had just left Raleigh when it hit a car on the tracks Thursday evening.

A passenger on the train told Channel 9 he looked out the window and saw the car spinning.

"I watched it happen because I was on the side when the train hit it," said Claude Vurgess.

The car's driver was able to jump out of the way before the collision.

Nobody on board the train was hurt and the train was delayed for about an hour.
