Government officials are hoping to get an accurate population count for the United States and are urging residents to complete the 2020 survey by mail or online.
The U.S. Census survey consists of a few questions and helps determines how much of the $1.5 trillion federal budget each community is eligible to receive.
The effort to count all Americans benefits hospitals, health programs and first responders depending on how many people complete the survey.
It also affects how much federal funding will go to local schools and infrastructure projects.
The Census Bureau has stopped door-to-door operations over concern of the spread of coronavirus. However, if residents don’t respond, a worker will come to complete the questionnaire in person.
