Atrium Health files building permit for 12-story, $893M bed tower on CMC campus

CHARLOTTE — Atrium Health’s billion-dollar investment into its facilities at Carolinas Medical Center continues as plans for a new bed tower push forward.

The Charlotte-based health-care giant filed a building permit with Mecklenburg County on Nov. 29 for a 1.2 million-square-foot, 12-story bed tower.

According to Collin Lane, Atrium Health’s senior vice president, facilities management group, the new tower will be located on its main campus at 1000 Blythe Blvd., where Carolinas Rehabilitation hospital and the Blythe parking deck currently stand.

It will have 448 beds as well as state-of-the-art operating rooms, surgery and procedure suites, cardiac cath labs, interventional radiology suites, diagnostics and imaging, inpatient beds, a helipad, public amenities and dining.
