CHARLOTTE — An Illinois regulatory board vote today could scrap the proposed blockbuster merger between Charlotte’s Atrium Health and Advocate Aurora Health, which has co-headquarters in Milwaukee and suburban Chicago, Crain’s Chicago reported.

The two health-care systems announced May 11 plans for a joint-operating agreement. At the time, executives said the transaction could close within a month but no later than year end.

The Illinois Health Facilities & Services Review Board denied the change of ownership request that would allow Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health to merge, according to the Crain’s report. The board later voted to reconsider the decision, choosing to postpone — rather than reject — consideration of Advocate Aurora’s request.
