• Authorities closer to solving 16-year-old murder

JONESVILLE, N.C. - Authorities said that they are a step closer to solving a murder of a North Carolina police officer that is nearly two decades old.

Jonesville police Sgt. Gregory Martin was shot to death during a traffic stop on Interstate 77 in 1996.

Last week, after investigating for 16 years, authorities arrested Scott Sica in connection with Martin's murder.

Gastonia Police said Sica's van was left at a local business the day after the murder.

For years, local investigators followed up on leads and did interviews to try and help Jonesville police make an arrest.
