MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — A body believed to be a missing 73-year-old man on Lake Wylie was found Friday morning, authorities said.

Investigators told Channel 9 they responded to Copperhead Island on Soldier Road around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for a welfare check after learning the man had not returned home.

According to officials, the man is a long-time resident of the lake and was last seen at the Copperhead Island boat launch. His empty boat was found nearby.

Channel 9 was at the scene of the search as Charlotte firefighters launched drones over the lake.

Authorities continued to search through the night before his body was found near the Buster Boyd Bridge. The man’s name has not yet been released.

Investigators said they don’t suspect foul play at this time.
