CHARLOTTE, N.C. — BB&T Corp. is planning to build a hangar at Charlotte Douglas International Airport as part of its impending headquarters move to Charlotte.
BB&T will merge with SunTrust Banks Inc. in a $66 billion deal by the end of the year to create an as-yet-unnamed institution with a headquarters in the Queen City.
The hangar will be for corporate aircraft, a spokesperson for BB&T confirmed. The site is under development, and the bank expects construction to begin later this year, the spokesperson said.
Charlotte City Council approved a 20-year lease agreement with BB&T at its meeting on Tuesday night.
