Belmont homeowner warning others after break in

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — The owner of a home in Belmont is warning others after her home was broken into while she was at church on Oct. 1.

The homeowner told Channel 9′s Erika Jackson that her son got a motion detection notification and saw someone tampering with the front door. She said her son called a friend who confronted two strangers on the property.

Gaston County Police have not found anyone involved.

The homeowner has a farm on her property in the 5700 block of South New Hope Road and is used to having visits from customers.

“I was at church. And I had no idea that anything had happened until I came to the back door,” she said.

One of the farm’s surveillance videos captured the man knocking on a window. The owner told police that her security alarm sensor was on the ground when she got home and the back door was damaged.

“Even though my alarm was not on, the cameras picked him up,” she said. “My son picked up the alert; the alert went to a couple of neighbors, and one of them came down here, pronto.”

Her son told police that a neighbor confronted two women on the property who said they needed water for their overheating car.

Since the break-in, the family has added more cameras. But they still have a warning for neighbors.

“I don’t want my neighbors to be afraid,” she said. “I want them to take precautions and secure their homes, make sure their alarms are on and be watchful of each other.”

The department provided descriptions of the three suspects, two of whom were female.

  • Female, olive complexion and long dark hair, wearing a long black skirt and head covering.
  • Female, olive complexion and long dark hair, wearing a floral patterned dress and black purse.
  • Male, olive complexion, with a beard and dark hair, wearing a dark-colored polo shirt, shorts and black and white Nike tennis shoes.
