CHARLOTTE — A 53-year-old bicyclist has died from injuries sustained in a head-on collision with an SUV on Albemarle Road in east Charlotte.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded to the crash in the 8800 block of Albemarle Road around 4:50 a.m. on July 31.
At the scene, officers found Kenneth Stiltner lying in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. A GMC Acadia with significant front-end damage was found nearby.
According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of the GMC was traveling west in the left westbound lane when the vehicle collided head-on with Stiltner, who police said was riding his bicycle east in that same lane.
Stiltner was thrown from his bicycle in the crash and was transported to a hospital by MEDIC. He was not wearing a helmet, and his bicycle did not have a front headlight at the time of the collision, according to CMPD.
Stiltner was pronounced dead Tuesday, Aug. 11, nearly two weeks after the crash.
The investigation remains active, and anyone with informaiton regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators or CrimeStoppers.
