Big 22: York QB Ryan Brochu

Big 22 Player to Watch York Comprehensive quarterback Ryan Brochu went from playing fútbol to football.

Channel 9 sports director Phil Orban reported that isn’t the only shuffle the high school player has made on the field.

Brochu followed an unconventional path. He grew up playing soccer. He transitioned to football as a kicker, then to tight end, but he didn’t stay in that position.

His arm strength pops off the screen when you watch him throw the football. He’s got accuracy, as well.

Starting as a kicker helped Brochu handle pressure when he moved to quarterback, stepping in for an injured teammate.

The move started in the sixth grade when he was just slinging around a football at recess.

His friends told him that being a tight end may not be the right fit for him.

Coaches noted his potential. Brochu’s corner told him to be focused on what is important- go to practice, don’t goof around, don’t talk back to the coaches, stay calm.

“And you’re not bigger than the program,” Brochu said.
