BLOWING ROCK, N.C. — A Blowing Rock home valued at more than $1 million burned down early Friday morning, officials said. No one was home.
Emergency crews were called to the house on Norwood Circle, just of Blowing Rock Road, around 4 a.m., according to police.
Neighbors say that last year, the home underwent major renovations.
Dave Whetstone and his wife said the siding on their home next door was damaged, and a window cracked due to the intense heat.
Firefighters removed propane tanks from the Whetstone’s deck and used a ladder truck to keep flames from catching their home on fire.
“The fire department in Blowing Rock is phenomenal,” Whetstone said. “If it had not been for the wonderful fire department and the men, our house would have burned to the ground.”
A portion of a wall collapsed a few feet from his home.
Jamie Dixey shot video of the fire from her home across the street.
The blaze was so hot that her front door was heated up.
She watched firefighters put the fire out and keep other people safe.
“I’m so thankful,” Dixey said. “And to watch them do that and save the house next to the burning house was just amazing.”
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
